Although i studied a degree in fine art i have spent the last 15 years working as a goldsmith, developing those skills which i am now utilising in the creation of sculpture.
I am inspired by watchmakers and deep sea creatures. I see parallels between the complications of mechanical watches and the anatomy of crustaceans.
Although my sculptures look like sea creatures or reptiles they are in fact self portraits. The point that i am making is that throughout evolution our brains have grown around the neural structures of our evolutionary ancestors. At the centre of our brains we still have a reptile brain.
I feel motivated to create sculpture by a need to point out how driven by reptilian instinct we are as a species.
